Transition Towns arrive in Chile with Villa El Manzano in the Biobio region now proudly recognised as an official Transition Initiative. The TT movement is a positive, community based response to the twin challenges of peak oil and climate change. An initiative from the UK based on the principles of Permaculture, the movement is creating a wave of activity across the planet mostly in England, New Zealand and Au stralia. Here in EL Manzano we are working with our own community, equipping our people to self organise for resilience. Together we are trying to accelerate change in our village, to cultivate the values, knowledge, skills and action competency needed to imagine a positive future, and begin step by step creating it for our children. We have started the process by focusing on building a core organising team, identifying leaders, bringing them up to speed on the issues and options, and making them aware of the transition process. We are working to raise the awareness of people in our community and to build positive working relationships with existing groups and government organisations in the area. When we are ready we will begin the participatory process of developing a community action plan to address important issues like water, food, energy and transport. We intend to operate as a local organising hub, developing the capacity of the El Manzano team and community and beginning to support other transition initiatives in the district and region of Biobio. We intend to play a role at the national level also by supporting the emergence of a national network and developing a comprehensive transition training course for Chilenos.
If you want to get your community moving in transition we want to support you.
