learning community

Gaia University, School of Transition

Alive and Well in Chile

A few days out from the month long summer series of Gaia University in South America, with a chance to breathe, we reflect on a catalytic learning event that has brought together a learning community. The presence of two international leaders in the world of regenerative design Liora Adler and Andrew Langford has made this project tangible, as we move from dreaming to planning a critical mass now exists.

Orientation

We started the seven day orientation with a bang with 37 participants in attendance from 27 from Chile, and ten from Peru, Venezuela, Brazil, New Zealand, Spain, Canada and the USA. A mulitcultural and multilingual event from the beginning, not without its difficulties. The event was led by Liora and Andrew with teching support from Gaia Uni associates Grifen Hope, Javiera Carrion and Monica Engel.

The first few days we were privileged to witness the end of year presentations of Fran, Berni, Santiago, Pedro and Felipe from Ecolof, and a final ending presentation from Juan Carlos as he graduated from his two year diploma process. The level of action from these guys is incredible, mobilising their families and communities to engage in transition. Each associate demonstrated a high level of competence in their respective projects, and in particular compelling stories about their own personal transformations. We were also lucky enough to see the final end of year presnetation from Monica Engel, Grifen & Javiera.

Permaculture & Transition Towns in Chile: Leveraging Networks, Cooking up Community

Design for Resilient Human Settlements

This is the second story from the learning process in Millenrama. You can read the first here.

The week 5-9th of May 2010 team El Manzano was hosted in Millenrama, Mantagua, 5th region to run an Applied Permaculture Design course.
As El Manzano tests ideas for assisting people and communities to engage in transition and design for resilient human settlements, the team develops competency in the delivery of catalytic learning events, in facilitation and leadership by design. As the experience is reviewed once again it is confirmed that there is no power equal to a community deciding what it will become.
