Ecological Design Science

By Joanne Tippett. The aim of this work is a cross-disciplinary integration of ideas specifically relevant to permaculture design and the physical structure of human settlements. Although this work is ambitious in scope, I feel this is an important element of the writing, to present an overview such that the reader is able to see the inter-relations of many ideas relevant to design. This is a synthesis of a kind which I believe has so far not been attempted.

Summary of a book by Christopher Alexander, Sara Ishikawa, Murray Silverstein, with Max Jacobson, Ingrid Fiksdahl-King and Shlomo Angel. Published by Oxford University Press.

The original book contains much essential detail behind each of the following patterns and is recommended reading.

We begin with that part of the language which defines a town or community. These patterns can never be "designed" or "built" in one fell swoop- but patient piecemeal growth, designed in such a way that every individual act is always helping to create or generate these larger global patterns, will, slowly and surely, over the years, make a community that has these global patterns in it.

PERMACULTURA EN ACCIÓN

Ecoescuela El Manzano se encuentra actualmente en la mitad del Curso de Diseño de Permacultura de Invierno con un grupo inspirado de estudiantes permanentemente motivados a marcar la diferencia en sus propias comunidades. Son 22 estudiantes de Chile, Venezuela, Uruguay, Marruecos y Australia, los cuales hicieron el esfuerzo de llegar aquí y compartir con nosotros este invierno lleno de sol y días maravillosos.   

PERMACULTURE DESIGN COURSE

The Permaculture course is a 72-hour course, based on the methodology that Bill Mollison outlines, and as extended by many teachers and designers from around the world. It includes theoretical classes and practicum and all students are required to complete a design at the end of the course.

The course can be taken anywhere in the world. Here in Chile you can do the PDC in one of two ways;

Residential - the traditional type of PDC where you live onsite for a two week intensive period.

Modular - a newer type of PDC where you attend a 8 weekend workshops over an eight month period.

Para mi impresión!, esta iniciativa, la cual fue propuesta por los mismos habitantes, convocó a muchos Manzaninos. Se rescata pues, la importancia a que las actividades sean propuestas por los mismos habitantes de una comunidad, siempre bajo el suave guiar y apoyo de un equipo que ayude al desarrollo organizacional con una mirada mas global que aporte con conocimientos, compartiendo y apreciando el sagrado conocimiento de aquellos que han vivido siempre en el lugar.
